  1. In 1990, when I first came to Singapore, I was very impressed by this city-state. Not only Singapore was modern, clean and friendly as I had learnt from my Norwegian and German Expat clients in Vietnam, but I really enjoyed my stay in Singapore as if offers the best business opportunities and career opportunities to all who really want to make it.
The first student to come to Singapore was, in my knowledge, my sister. As a graduate from Vietnam's Economics University, she was trained in Macroeconomics, but lacked English and international exposure. At first she signed up in Computer Studies, along with English Classes. Then she completed the LCCI, the Accounting Courses, and finally the ACCA. I was very proud to mention that she scored Distinction in all the subjects. I also arranged to let her teach Vietnamese to Singaporean Businessmen at the community centers in the evening. She later found work as Accountant in a multi-national company based in Singapore, then worked asIndependent Auditor for a few years before she moved to Switzerland where she is working as Financial Manager for a Pharma company. I must say this is the best investment I did for her and for my family in Vietnam, and she also helped out to contribute to my parents in Vietnam. Thank you, Singapore.
PS In my next blog, I will tell you my experience as the first MBA student in Singapore.

  2. I come to Singapore in 1990, after my first stays in Switzerland and Norway. As the first (working) Vietnamese Expat in Singapore, a mountain of opportunities were offered to me. Trained in HCMC University in Political Studies and Foreign Languages, I was working as Translator and Interpreter in Singapore and as Teacher in French and Vietnamese for the Business Community. In 1992, I decided to sign up for the Hull MBA to give more recognition to my Vietnamese Degree and as complement to my Swiss University Studies. I had a very good experiences with my MBA classes with APMC. My UK-based teachers were world-class and delivered high quality and very comprehensive material for our research. Classmates were highly qualified professionals who contributed actively to our team working groups. Some of them occupied CEO or Top Management positions. There were also some other nationalities apart from Singaporean students and that gave the class the international exposure needed in this type of education. Assignments were tough and required a lot of research - there was no internet at my time - and exams strictly controlled and graded in the UK. My thesis was on 'Entrepreneurshi' and I took my company's Business as model for my work. My MBA studies really helped me move further and faster in my career as a Marketing & Communication Professional, using my language skills. I would strongly recommend Vietnamese students to work on your language skills, along with management skills. It is always useful.
