Malaysian PM Najib Razak has dropped another
strong hint that the general election is drawing close.
“I feel
that when there is plenty of talk about it, then it looks like the election is
near,” the Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman said, adding that he
was pleased to see growing support for the ruling coalition based on the
people's trust.
He said
the government had made changes in line with the people's wishes and was
banking on this to carry the Barisan through.
He said
the Barisan's approach in gaining the people's trust and confidence was by
presenting them with facts and undertaking changes they wanted, adding that
this was contrary to the opposition's lies and “fiction”.
“The
Barisan is not out to just gain popularity. We want to do good for the people
and country,” he said at a luncheon hosted for the local community at the
Dataran Kompleks Daerah and Tanah Port Dickson by the beachfront in Teluk Kemang.
Najib
said it was a fact that the country's revenue had increased significantly and
because of this, the government could distribute RM500 aid to families earning
below 3,000 ringgit (US$968).
He
added that the opposition created “fiction” by claiming otherwise.
Earlier,
the Prime Minister witnessed the handing over of 70 units of affordable homes
to the state government.
The
1,100sq ft houses, with three rooms, cost 42,000 ringgit ($14,000) each.
Najib
said the by-election for Bagan Pinang state seat in Negri Sembilan was a
turning point for the Barisan after the 2008 political tsunami.
“I hope
to see even greater victories. We have done a lot of changes for the people in
the past three years and there will be more to come if we are given the mandate
again,” he said.
