Brunei - HM expected in Cambodia today

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is due to arrive in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, today for the 21st ASEAN Summit and related summits.

Held at the Peace Palace in the capital from November 18 to 20, His Majesty will formally receive the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2013 from Cambodia in a symbolic handover ceremony, where the monarch will deliver a titah in his remarks as the incoming Chairman of ASEAN.

Brunei's delegation at the summits will include Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohd Yasmin Hj Umar, Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Rahman Hj Ibrahim, Minister of Finance II, During the three days, His Majesty will join other ASEAN leaders alongside ASEAN's dialogue country leaders in a series of discussions on economic and political issues.

The summits in Phnom Penh will bring together key world leaders including re-elected US President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, will be a notable absentee from the event.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard During the three days, His Majesty will join other ASEAN leaders alongside ASEAN's dialogue country leaders in a series of discussions on economic and political issues.

According to Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, among the highlights of the 21st ASEAN Summit and related summits will be the adoption of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration which is set to take place tomorrow.

The forthcoming summits will also see the launch the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation together with the signing of the ASEAN Agreement on Movement of Natural Persons.

This will be the second ASEAN Summit hosted by Cambodia this year as the previous summit was also held in Phnom Penh from April 3 to 4.
