KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is the second best country in Asean for dynamic growing businesses, according to the Grant Thornton Global Dynamism Index (GDI).

Malaysia, which came in second after Singapore, was ranked 23rd globally.

S.J. Grant Thornton managing partner Datuk N.K. Jasani said the strong positioning was a result of good ratings for Malaysia in key areas of business operating environment (74), economics and growth (72.3) and financing environment (57.7).

“Malaysia, even though positioned after Singapore, possess dynamic growing business prospects such as good business operating environment where foreign trade and exchange regimes and controls are well-developed.

“It has healthy private consumption per head in economics and growth and access of firms to medium-term capital in financing environment,” he said in a statement.

The GDI ranks 50 leading economies on their dynamism in five key areas – business operating environment, economics and growth, science and technology, labour and human capital as well as financing environment.
