VietNamNet Bridge – With the weight of up to 1,000 tons, a dragon-shaped arch bridge crossing the Han River in Da Nang City will be registered for recognition as the World Guinness record and the "largest steel dragon."

Mr. Phan Van Chuong, deputy director of Da Nang Department of Transportation said the department has asked Da Nang authorities for registering a world Guinness record for this work.

This is a steel arch bridge in a dragon shape, which is the most unique and biggest in Vietnam and the world. After the inauguration (scheduled on 29/03/2013, the 38th liberation anniversary of Da Nang,) the bridge will look like a dragon that is breathing fire and water.

By design, the length of the dragon body (concrete and steel dome) is more than 500 meters. The weight of the steel arch is over 1,000 tons. Crossing the dragon body are five steel pipes of 1.2 meter in diameter.

The dragon head and tail are 15m long, 9m high from the beam. The dragon head is in the form of stone dragons of the Ly Dynasty while its tail is designed as stylized lotus symbol.

The Dragon Bridge project was kicked off in July 2009, with a total investment of VND1.5 trillion (over $7 million).

This is the 6th bridge over the Han River, over 666m long, 37.5m wide, with six lanes.
