(KPL) Bangkok Airways has officially made its maiden flight from Bangkok to Vientiane with an inaugural ceremony last Friday.

The ceremony, held at the Wattay International Airport, was attended by Deputy Director General of the Lao Airport Authority, Mr. Donh Sithammala, Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Department, Mr. Vanhpeng Chanthapron, Bangkok Airways’ President Puttipong Prasarttong Osoth and relevant officials from both sides.

“It is our pleasure to announce our first flight operation to Vientiane offering a non-stop daily service from Bangkok,” said Mr. Puttipong.

“Vientiane has a great potential in term of economy, culture and tourism. The country has developed significantly in both industrial and agricultural aspects over the past decade. We believe that by connecting Bangkok and Vientiane, it will be able to respond to the travel demand of both business and leisure travellers,” added Mr. Puttipong.

The new service will be operated daily by Airbus A319 with 12 blue ribbon class seats (business class) and 108 seats in economy. Flight PG943 departs Bangkok at 08:15 hrs and arrives Vientiane at 09:30 hrs while PG944 takes off from Vientiane at 10:10 hrs and lands in Bangkok at 11:25 hrs.

Vientiane is Bangkok Airways’ second destination in Laos after a well-received Bangkok-Luang Prabang service was inaugurated in October, 2002.

This new flight connection will enhance the airline’s network to cover ASEAN countries and allows Laos and Thailand to be more closely linked, according to mr. Puttipong.

At the present, Bangkok Airways operates many routes from Thailand to some major cities in ASEAN. To name a few, Bangkok – Luang Prabang, Bangkok – Yangon, Bangkok – Phnom Pehn, Bangkok – Siem Reap, Samui – Kuala Lampur and Samui – Singapore.
