VietNamNet Bridge – The amended Anti-Corruption Law will take effect from February, with the launch of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption under the Politburo, headed by the Party General Secretary. However, the standing agency – the Central Commission on Internal Affairs cannot operate immediately.

Explaining to the National Assembly Standing Committee at the meeting on January 23, Pham Anh Tuan, deputy head of the Central Commission of Internal Affairs, said the commission will take on the role of the advisory body of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption.

The plan on the personnel of the Central Commission of Internal Affairs is under consideration.

"In principle, when the amended Ant-corruption Law takes effect at the beginning of February, the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption will be officially put into operation. But the advisory body or the Central Commission on Internal Affairs will have to wait until the plan is approved by the Secretariat to begin operational," Tuan said.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly--Uong Chu Luu, said that while the agencies such as the Central Commission of Internal Affairs and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (under the Government Inspectorate) are preparing their personnel, the implementation of the amended Law on Anti-corruption still needs to be done urgently.

In early January, the Central Party Committee’s Secretariat issued Decision 159 on the functions, tasks and organizational structure of the Central Commission of Internal Affairs. Accordingly, the commission is the advisory body to the Central Party Committee and the Politburo, the Secretariat on the policies on home affairs and anti-corruption. The agency also assigned to six groups of tasks.

Earlier, the Politburo issued a decision on the assignment of Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, dn City Party Secretary, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Council, served as head of the Central Commission of Internal Affairs.

The establishment of this commission is expected to make big changes in anti-corruption activities in Vietnam.
