VietNamNet Bridge – Recent activities by the Chinese side have seriously violated Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign right and jurisdiction in the East Sea and Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, foreign ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi has stated.

The official was answering questions on Jan. 14 about Vietnam’s response to a number of recent activities by China in the East Sea, especially its official announcement and enforcement of the coastal border security regulations for Hainan, the exercise on Quang Hoa Island of Hoang Sa archipelago, the provision of 3D and CDMA services on Chu Thap (Stone Cross) of Truong Sa archipelago, and the approval of the Sanya City cruise tourism development plan (2012-2022) which includes tours to islands in Hoang Sa archipelago.

Those activities further complicate the situation in the East Sea and run counter to the spirit of the Declaration on Conduct of the Parties in the East Sea (DOC), he said, describing them as unhelpful to peace and stability in the region as well as the Vietnam-China relations.

Vietnam resolutely opposes and demands China to immediately cancel those wrongful activities, the official said.
