Vietnam - Vietnam exports hit the jackpots in first months of the year

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese exporters all have reportedly got overjoyed because they have obtained big orders, which gives one more reason to believe that the targeted 10 percent export turnover growth rate in 2013 is within reach.

Wooden furniture manufacturers keep optimistic

Tran Van Nam, Director of Phuoc Hung Company, said the company has got enough jobs until April 2013 with the products to be exported to key markets of Europe, Japan and Australia.

Also according to Nam, Phuoc Hung exports 35-40 containers of goods a month worth $20,000 for each container. On February 20, 5 containers left for the European market.
He keeps optimistic about the jobs in 2013, saying that Phuoc Hung plans to march towards the US market.

Director of Mifaco 2 Dien Quang Hiep has also said the company has got the orders from the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand which can provide enough jobs until May 2013. The US market alone would consume 80 percent of the exports.

“I think Vietnamese wooden furniture manufacturers have bigger opportunities this year. Foreign partners now tend to place orders with Vietnamese instead of Chinese,” Hiep said.

Good news come rapid fire for farm produce exporters

According to Nguyen Xuan Thai, Chair of Thang Loi Company, 285 tons of coffee was shipped for Japan on February 19, worth $771,000.

Due to the crop failure in 2012, the coffee volume left among farmers is modest. However, the low output has been offset by the higher export price by 5-7 percent, which has helped Vietnamese gain satisfactory export turnover.

As soon as having returned from the Tet holiday, the HCM City Foodstuff Company sold 2,000 tons of scented rice to a partner from Hong Kong, earning $800,000. The company’s Director Huynh Cong Thanh said this was for the first time his company obtained such a big contract on scented rice export.

The Vietnam Food Association has informed that some countries plan to import more rice from Vietnam. Especially, China has signed a lot of contracts with Vietnamese enterprises since the beginning of the year. This has prompted the food association to raise the floor rice export price in order to ensure higher profits for farmers and exporters.

Meanwhile, according to Nguyen Duc Thanh, Chair of the Vietnam Cashew Association, unlike the previous years, a lot of orders have come right after the Tet holiday with the deliveries in six or seven months and higher export prices.

The member companies of the cashew association have signed the contracts on exporting 400 containers of goods (6.3 million tons) to the US, Australia and European countries at the average export price of $6,500 per ton, higher than the last year’s $6,000-6,200 per ton.

Garments meet good fortune

Garment companies, which had to live “from hand to mouth” last year, have become happier with a lot of orders coming. A report by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) showed that Vietnam exported $1.05 billion worth of garments in January, a 28.4 percent increase over the same period of the last year.

Most garment companies have got the orders which would give enough jobs until the end of the first quarter. Some of them have taken the orders for the second and third quarters already.

Seafood exporters wait for their time

Some seafood companies have received a lot of orders, while others still have been sitting idle.

Duong Ngoc Minh, President of Hung Vuong Seafood Company, said the company has fulfilled a contract on exporting 3,000 tons of catfish to Germany worth $8 million at the price higher by 15 percent than the market price.

Also according to Minh, European countries have many celebration days in February; therefore, the markets plan to increase the seafood imports by 30 percent over the end of 2012.

However, Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said more orders would only come in March, when importers clear sell out the imports earlier this year.
