Vietnam - Hanoi metro line slated to be operational from 2016

As scheduled, Hanoi will start work on urban pilot metro line No 3 from Nhon to Hanoi rail Station in this November and then kick off construction on the flyover section from late February 2012.
Hanoians expect to travel by metro from 2016 when the No 3 metro line is completed.
A pilot metro rail line in Hanoi, also called as Metro Hanoi project, is expected to start service by December 31, 2016. The pilot 12.5 km metro line linking Nhon, in Hanoi’s Tu Liem suburban district and the Hanoi railway station in the inner district of Hoan Kiem, includes a 8.5 km elevated section with eight stops and a 4 km underground section from Thu Le to Hanoi station.
Mr Bechereau, Director of metro line project and representative of the French consultancy Systra, said: “We are using modern machines for surveying and construction which enables us to dig the tunnel and build it immediately…Construction of the project will be watched daily to ensure technique and design safety”.
“Relevant agencies will determine what to do, how to do…in order to ensure smooth progress of the project”, he said.
French Ambassador Marie-Cécile Tardieu-Smith was quoted as saying that the slow progress in the project is affecting the costs. Currently, agencies and contractors in conjunction with Hanoi City People’s Committee are assessing and studying increases in costs. She said: “We also propose technical solutions to reduce costs”.
Work on urban metro line No 3 from Nhon to Hanoi station was started from September 2010. It is designed to across Nhon, Minh Khai, Phu Dien, Cau Dien, Le Duc Tho, National University, Ha Pagoda and Cau Giay while the underground section of Metro Hanoi will go over Kim Ma, Cat Linh, and Van Mieu and Hanoi rail station.
