Singapore - S’pore a top choice for Australian companies

Approximately three out of five Australian firms are looking at expanding across Southeast Asia, with Singapore as their top choice.
According to the latest Regus survey, emerging Southeast Asian markets are proving attractive to Australian firms. The research polled over 800 Australian business heads and found that 58 percent are interested in doing business across Southeast Asia.
The survey also discovered the eagerness of smaller companies to gain a foothold in the region, with nearly two-thirds of larger companies expressing the same interests. In all, 36 percent of small companies announced that they are more interested this year than in 2010, compared to 31 percent of the bigger companies.
Providing workplace solutions to companies of all sizes, Regus listed the top destinations for Australian customers in Southeast Asia. Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia landed in the top five spots.
“The Australian economy has proved itself reliable and resilient over the past few years, but local businesses are now looking to take advantage of huge opportunities in South-East Asian markets. As a result, today we ourselves have more Australian customers in Singapore than we do in the United States or the United Kingdom, and more in the Philippines than in China or Hong Kong,” said William Willems, Regional Vice-President ANZ and South-East Asia for Regus.
David Thomas, Chief Executive of Think Global Consulting, said, “Singapore is always going to be the hub for South-East Asia. Australian businesses offering high quality services, from education, tourism and financial / professional services to design, innovation and technology, are in high demand in Southeast Asia.”
