Vietnam - GreenBiz 2011 launched with press conferences in Hanoi and HCMC

The second GreenBiz 2011 Press Conferences were held successfully on Wednesday the 7th of September in both Hanoi and HCMC.

Representatives of the co-organizers the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the International Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) in HCMC stressed the importance of the event for Vietnam that is in urgent need for sustainable green solutions.

This is particularly true for infrastructure investments in which an estimated 160 billion usd is required over the next ten years. The Press Conference noted that GreenBiz 2011 will discuss climate change, sustainable cities, environmentally friendly technologies, green investments and sustainable strategies for transportation and manufacturing. More than 70 companies and 50 speakers had been confirmed so far.

EuroCham Chairman Alain Cany emphasized in the Press Conference that GreenBiz 2011 is targeted specifically at Vietnamese companies and the Vietnamese government, to support them with solutions to tackle climate change, energy issues and environmental challenges. He noted that Vietnam is still one of the countries most affected by climate change in the world, but at the same time has lots of potential regarding renewable energies like wind and sun. He added that MoIT’s co-hosting is a great compliment and achievement for EuroCham, and changes GreenBiz character to an even more serious government-organized event. It shows the Vietnamese Government’s great commitment to tackle environmental issues and we are pleased to support the Vietnamese in this endeavour.

GreenBiz sponsors completed the press conference by mentioning examples to tackle pressing environmental issues. Diamond sponsor SIEMENS described solutions for sustainable cities, and displayed a video that was part of a student contest for sustainable solutions in Vietnam. Gold sponsors Schneider Electric, Akzo Nobel, Philips and Shell gave examples of their approach for sustainable solutions in Vietnam, and the challenges involved. The Press Conference closed by encouraging Vietnamese companies, in particular SMEs to join and make GreenBiz 2011 a forum to exchange views and ideas on Vietnam’s emerging issues as well as to identify and contribute sustainable solutions for a growing Vietnam.
