Vietnam - “Premier Skills” English Competition Online to be launched

The British Council on September 12th will work with the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper to launch an online English competition for Vietnamese students at the website http://thitienganh.nld.com.vn

The competition, under the auspices of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is for Vietnamese students, aged from 12 to 18 and is a part of the Premier Skills project organised by the Premier League (Premier League) and the British Council worldwide to encourage Vietnamese students across the country to study English.

Accordingly, contestants will have to complete an online test consisting of 4 tasks: 3 multiple choice tasks and a writing task (a paragraph of less than 200 words). Every 2 weeks, the 8 best contestants will go through to an interview to select the top 5 who will be presented with 5 EVEC 266V e-dictionaries and these in turn would have the chance to compete in an exclusive competition to become Premier Skills champion.

Premier Skills is a joint project of the Premier League and the British Council, using football and the love of the Premier League as an effective tool to develop the sporting community as well as English skills.

The project was successfully tested in Egypt and India in 2007 and 2008. Later, the first phase of the project was successfully implemented in Africa (Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Senegal, Sudan, Tunisia and Uganda), India (New Delhi, Kolkata, Goa and Kerala ) and Asia (China, Malaysia, Korea and Vietnam).

The competition, consisting of four separate sessions, will end on November 6th.
