The
Republic of Korea Government has agreed to offer official development
assistance (ODA) loans worth 23.6 million USD for two medical equipment
purchase projects of Vietnam.
The loan agreements were signed in Hanoi on
Sept. 20 by Vietnamese Deputy Finance Minister Truong Chi Trung and Vice
Chairman of the RoK Export-Import Bank Sang Wan Byun.
Of the sum, 13.6 million USD will be used to
purchase medical equipment for the Lao Cai General Hospital and the rest will
be spent on buying equipment for the Centre of Nuclear Medicine and
Radiotherapy under the Da Nang Hospital. The sum will be channelled through the
RoK Economic Development Cooperation Fund.
With an interest rate of 0.1 percent each
year, the loans will be re-paid within 35 years, including a grace period of 10
years.
As one of Vietnam’s largest bilateral donors,
the RoK has financed projects not only in healthcare services but also
infrastructure and human resources development.
