Vietnam - State-of-the-art ambulance arrives in town

HCMC – The HCMC-based Family Medical Practice clinic has just imported an ambulance described as a state-of-the-art emergency medical unit, which will be used for domestic patient transfers, especially from far away localities in the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands.
Rafi Kot, general director of the clinic, said the ambulance was the first of its kind in HCMC, and six more similar ambulances that the clinic has ordered are on the way to the country.
The vehicles, costing an estimated US$150,000 each, are made in Canada and the U.S. In view of the rising demand for domestic patient transfers  within the country, and increasing air transfer costs, these cars provide a practical and affordable solution, he said.
The ambulance is used firstly as responder to emergency medical service within the city, and secondly to transfer complicated cases from around the country, including areas from the north and north western parts of the country.
The ambulance is equipped with modern facilities, including a ventilator system, a cardiac monitoring system with ability to transmit data from the car to any of Family Medical Practice’s clinics, an oxygen container, and an automated heart compression.
The ambulance has the capacity to transfer two patients at the same time.
Kot added that as the cabin is high and wide, it enables the car to become a working environment completely equipped rather than a transporter per se which is common in Vietnam.
Apart from its main clinic in HCMC and its offshoot Executive Health Care Center at The Manor building in Binh Thanh District, Family Medical Practice also operates clinics in Hanoi and Danang.
