Vietnam
and Germany have signed a cooperation and partnership agreement that will
tighten ties between the Europe Union and Vietnam, the German Embassy said in a
statement.
The agreement was signed under the auspices of
the EU’s General Affairs Council’s meeting on Monday in Brussels.
Werner Hoyer, the Minister of State at the
German Foreign Office, said at the signing ceremony that the agreement will be
a firm basis for the countries’ development in the future, considering that
Vietnam is one of the countries with active growth rates in the Southeast Asian
region, and an important partner not only of Germany but the whole of EU as
well.
It will also help facilitate the negotiations
for the Free Trade Agreement between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) and EU, Hoyer said.
The agreement will help strengthen the
political relationship between ASEAN and EU as well, he added.
