Singapore - New programmes to assist bankrupts and debtors

SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Law is rolling out two new programmes to help bankrupts and debtors.

These are the Financial Counselling Programme, which includes a workshop on financial education, and the Job Referral and Skills Upgrading Programme, which is run in collaboration with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

The Financial Counselling Programme aims to equip bankrupts and debtors with a job with essential money management skills including personal expenditure budgeting.

The Job Referral and Skills Upgrading Programme provides employment assistance to bankrupts through job referrals and career advisory services.

Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Law), Ms Sim Ann, said she hopes the schemes will help bankrupts and debtors work towards a quicker discharge from bankruptcy or successful completion of their debts.

The two programmes are being rolled out by the Insolvency and Public Trustee's Office which is also subsidising a large part of the financial education workshop.

Participants will then pay just S$13 per person to attend the workshop.

The inaugural workshop will be conducted on Saturday.
