Vietnam - All hospitals to be given thorough health checkup

VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Health will carry out its annual check on all hospital across the country from the beginning of October to December 12.

The checks were aimed at comprehensively assessing hospital infrastructure, equipment, finance and human resources, said Cao Hung Thai, deputy director of the Medical Services Administration under the ministry.
They also aimed at ensuring the quality of medical services and implementation of State regulations on medical services, as well as selecting an award for the nation's most outstanding hospital of the year, said Thai.
The checks will be applied at all hospitals, including private ones.
Hospitals with no more than 500 beds will be checked within 1 to 1.5 days while hospitals with more than 500 beds will be checked within 2 to 2.5 days.
The hospitals will be checked based on the ministry's 148 standards, with each hospital receiving a mark out of 100. Standards used during the inspections, which have been expanded since last year's checks, relate to hospital infrastructure, doctors' and nurses' qualification and ward equipment.
According to the new criteria for assessment, hospitals will be checked if they sell milk to mothers with new-born babies and arrange for doctors to be on duty during the night effectively.
In the lead up to the checks, hospitals will carry out in-house reviews of their operations from October 20 to 30. Inspectors from the Ministry of Health and cities' and provinces' departments of health will carry out checks from November 1 to December 15.
The hospitals' in-house checks will be carried out by their directors, deputy directors and heads of the planning sections.
The Health Ministry's inspectors will include representatives from the ministry, the Medical Services Administration, the Viet Nam National Union of Health Workers, local departments of health, directors, deputy directors and heads of wards from selected hospitals.
The results of the checks will be sent to the Medical Services Administration no later than December 20.
