- Education and training is considered a primary solution to improve the living
conditions of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands, says Nguyen Sinh Hung,
Chairman of the National Assembly.
Summarising his fact-finding trip to the
region on October 17, Mr Hung pointed out difficulties and challenges Central
Highland provinces face in poverty reduction, saying weaknesses in education
and vocational training are major obstacles to boosting socio-economic
development in the region.
According to Mr Hung, the poverty rate of
ethnic residents is high, investment in infrastructure is modest, local people
still live hard lives spiritually and physically, security remains complicated,
and the ratio of Party members to ethnic population is low.
Relevant agencies and Central Highland
provinces should analyse weaknesses and work out solutions, with a particular
focus on developing education and vocational training, said Mr Hung.
The region should make full use of its
potential, especially its young and abundant labour force, he said, adding that
increasing investment in education and training will help improve the quality
of human resources for local socio-economic development programs.
This is a key and long-term solution to make
breakthroughs in regional development, noted the National Assembly Chairman.
He reminded local authorities of people-based
formulation of socio-economic development policies and asked regional provinces
to boost economic restructuring, taking into account soil and weather
conditions, infrastructure and traditional customs of ethnic groups.
During the trip, Mr Hung met and inquired into
the living conditions of ethnic villagers in poor communes and implementation
of development policies there.
The Central Highlands houses five provinces:
Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Lam Dong and Kon Tum.
