The
Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment said it will check and inspect
many real estate and mining projects throughout the country, Tuoi Tre (Youth)
newspaper quoted Do Nhat Hoang, head of the Foreign Investment Agency of the
Ministry of Planning and Investment on Friday.
Hoang confirmed that the ministry will also
inspect a series of steel and cement projects in near future.
Facing the situation of concerns on golf
course projects using agricultural land, forestry projects, mining projects
causing serious environment pollution and others, Hoang said that currently,
the licensing was decentralized to the people’s committee of provinces and
project management units, so if not lawful, the licensing agency shall have to
take responsibility for the law and the government of Vietnam.
“As for mining projects, I know some provinces
have large-scale mineral deposits, but local authorities have been ‘reshaped’
these mines into the small-scale so that they can decide themselves. That is
the story which needs more fundamental measures from us in the near future,”
said Hoang.”
