LA TRINIDAD Benguet, Nov. 7 (PIA) - -‘Come
and visit the province and join us celebrate our 111th foundation day. We have
scheduled a month-long calendar of activities for the people of Benguet and
visitors alike in celebration of ‘Adivay 2011.’
This was the invitation extended by Benguet
Governor Nestor Fongwan in a kapihan media forum last week at the Provincial
Capitol which served as the launching activity for the month-long festivities
of ‘Adivay 2011.’
This year’s events will focus on the tourism
industry of the province, particularly on promoting what each of the 13 municipalities
has to offer.
“Benguet is already known for our temperate
vegetables, the mining industry both small-scale and the large mining companies
as well as our hydro-electric power industry.
For this year, we will be showcasing the
tourism industry of the province like promoting the scenic spots and various
potential tourism sites of each of our 13 municipalities. These will be offered
to both local and foreign tourists alike, Fongwan said.
To highlight the Adivay festival, Fongwan
announced that on Nov 19, there will be the parade and Tourism Day where there
will be a street dancing exhibition and a drum and lyre competition.
“As a tradition of the Adivay, people from all
walks of life and from the different municipalities will join the parade and
the annual Canao, which is the traditional thanksgiving ceremony of the
Adivay,” Fongwan added.
Fongwan also added that the 111th Foundation
day anniversary of the province will be on the 23rd, which was already affirmed
by Malacañang as an official holiday of the province.
The provincial government of Benguet will
confer awards to its citizen achievers as well as on winners of its Clean and
Green program. Theatrical and cultural performance will also be presented.
Among the other scheduled events for Adivay
2011 are the search for Mr. and Ms. Benguet whose Coronation night is scheduled
on Nov. 12; and Search for Little Mr. and Ms Adivay on Nov. 19, both to be held
at the Benguet State University close Gymnasium; a Run for a Cause on Nov. 20;
the 2nd 4x4 challenge on November 26; a photo contest that will run from Nov.
16 to 23; a Medical Outreach/Health Fair on Nov. 18 at the Benguet Sports
Complex in Wangal, La Trinidad, and an agro-industrial and trade fair that will
run from Nov. 16 to 26 at the same venue.
Fongwan also announced the ‘Dongba ni Kavajo’
– a cowboy event featuring horseback-riding on Nov. 20-21 and the Small-scale
Mining Congress on Nov.22 at the Benguet Sports Complex.
He also disclosed that part of the celebration
is the mass wedding which for this year will be held in the municipalities of
Bakun (Nov. 11), Kibungan (Nov. 15) and La Trinidad (Nov.18).
