minorities.
Especially, a school has been opened where
people learn the sense of shame. These are the strangest
schools in Vietnam.
The school where there are only women of
ethnic minorities
This is the school of 150 learners who are the
women of ethnic minorities in the northern province of Cao Bang. The women have
been learning at 21 classes located in three districts of Bao Loc, Bao Lam and
Ha Quang in the province.
A lot of women are very diligent in following
their study. They go to school every evening, carrying their children pick-a-back
astride on their hip with a cloth band. After the lessons, they return home and
discuss with husbands about the lessons.
Going to school has become happiness for the
women of ethnic minority. Education has helped change the way of living and
thinking of ethnic minority people.
The
school run by a blind teacher
Living for 20 years in the darkness, Dang Ngoc
Duy, 33, in Tam Ky City of Quang Nam province has been facing a lot of
problems. However, Duy never thinks that he would “surrender to the destiny.”
In 1992, when the Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for
the blind was established in Da Nang City, Duy’s parent traveled a distance of
60 kilometers to bring Duy to the school.
There at the school, Duy learned the way to communicate
with the world with Braille language. Refusing the invitation to stay at the
school to work as a teacher, Duy returned home and continued learning hard,
cherishing the hope that he would pass the entrance exams to a university.
In 2008, Duy graduated from the university and
started thinking about the project on building up a school for the blind, the
first one of this kind in Tam Ky.
The
school that teaches hat xam (songs of a strolling blind musician)
In an effort to rescue hat xam from falling into
oblivion, the artists of the Development Center for Musical Arts Vietnam have
organized the classes, where they teach hat xam free of charge to everyone. The
classes are located in Hanoi.
The classes have existed for the last five
years, during which hundreds of young people learned to hat xam and learned to
love the traditional type of art.
Musician Thao Giang said that the enthusiasm
of young people at the classes show that Vietnamese people do not turn their
back to the traditional arts as many people fear.
The
school with only 2 students
The Nam Khao village of Muong Te district in
Lai Chau province has special classes.
A class for second graders only has two students,
while the classes for third and sixth graders only have six students, a class
for fourth graders has 9 students. The class for 5th graders proves to be the
most crowded with 22 students.
Vinh, Deputy Headmaster of the Nam Khao Primary
School said that a lot of classes are located in different hamlets to serve the
local students, who cannot travel long distances to school. Therefore, the
numbers of students vary in different classes.
Every year, the teachers of the school have to
come to every household to persuade parents to let their children go to school
The
classes designed for male and female students
The fact that a psychology doctor, who was once
the lecturer of the Vinh City University, returned to the home village after he
got retired to build a school with strange rules, is always a topic for discussion
among local residents of Huong Son district in Ha Tinh province.
The classes only gather male or female
students. Every period of teaching lasts 90 minutes. The students of the school
can stay off from school in harvest time.
The security guards of the school are also
very special: they are the dogs.
This is the Nguyen Khac Vien people founded
high school in Son Bang commune in Ha Tinh province, whose Dr Nguyen Le Dac is
the headmaster.
The

Dao ethnic minority people in Dang Long hamlet
of Bac Son commune in Hoa Binh province calls Trieu Van Trien their “repository
of knowledge.” For the last 10 years, Trien has been running the classes that
teach the sense of shame.
“You should be ashamed when you do bad things,
when you do not know your origins and when you make ethics violations,” he
said.
