Vietnam - The stories about tycoons’ private airplanes

VietNamNet Bridge – Well-known branded clothes and luxurious cars were once considered the typical things that showed which classes the owners belonged to. However, times have changed a lot. Businessmen nowadays tend to use private airplanes to polish their images.

The troubles around private airplanes

The Vietnamese rich businessmen are now possessing two main kinds of private airplanes: either flat bottom wing airplanes or propeller airplanes, the one like Doan Nguyen Duc’s. In general, flat bottom wing airplanes can operate more easily because there are air routes for commercial flights already. However, it is not easy for private helicopters to fly on the Vietnamese sky.

A lot of businessmen explain that they buy airplanes just to serve their business. However, in fact, they well understand that with the people’s curiosity, the possessing of private airplanes would catch the special attention and it is really an advertisement method much better than any other ways.

An official from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), said that with flat bottom wing airplanes, the owners will have to ask for permission for every time of taking off. In emergency case, they will get the permission after several hours after applying for the permission. In other cases, they will get the permission within 7 days. If so, it would be better to take a commercial flight than using private airplane.

Meanwhile, the owners of helicopters like the one of the Hoa Phat’s boss, will have to follow more complicated procedures to ask for the permission, because they have to get the approval from the Ministry of National Defense.

Businessmen also say that it would be more convenient to use private airplanes for short distance flights. However, in fact, flat bottom wing airplanes cannot land in all kinds of terrain. Meanwhile, it is very inconvenient to take long distance flights with this kind of airplane, because the airplanes will have to land on the way for charging fuel, while the owners of the airplanes will have to ask for the permission to fly different stages.

A story has been orally transmitted that after a party, a businessman asked an airplane for a lift. However, the flight was terrible for the businessman, because there was not a toilet on the airplane. The businessman could not do the anything to settle the problem because there were also women on the flight.

In Vietnam, the people, who have private airplanes or yachts, would be called “the godfathers”. The thing once was seen tens of years ago in foreign countries, where people polished their images by using airplanes and yachts, because these were very expensive things at that time.

Using private airplanes and yachts has become in fashion now in Vietnam. The luxurious assets will pave the way for their owners to do many things smoothly. In the eyes of partners, the businesses, whose owners have private airplanes, must be the big ones which have good financial capability. Meanwhile, bankers believe that the businesses have healthy business situation and they do not impose too strict requirements on the businesses when lending money.

However, in fact, not all the people possessing private airplanes are billionaires. Director of Green Planet Company, which has purchased four airplanes (100,000 euro each), told the press that he is not a tycoon at all, though people believes that he is really powerful.

It seems that the director does not tell lie. His company’s head office is a small room with the area of 20 square meter on a small alley of Tran Hung Dao street in Hanoi. However, in Vietnam, all the people that possess aircraft will get famous.

The airplane chartering service in Vietnam has been available for years. Foreign travelers like chartering helicopters to visit the Ha Long bay or fly to the northwestern region.
