THE
TelBru-owned ICT Leadership Management (ILM) Academy will be moving to larger
premises next year as it undergoes expansion.
Achmed Nadzri Hj Harif, the corporate affairs
officer of ILM Academy revealed that the institute is currently undergoing
preparations for their transition to the new premise which will be located at
the Munchit Square in Berakas, the same complex in which LiveWIRE Brunei is
also operating.
"We hope to unify our existing premises
so that we operate in one place. In addition, this new premises will allow us
for future expansion as we continue to roll out new programmes beginning next
year, and ultimately help Brunei achieve its goal to become a centre of
excellence in education and ICT," he told The Brunei Times yesterday.
Currently, the insitute's main office and
training facilities are located at the Brunei Economic Development Board's
Knowledge Hub, in Anggerek Desa, with additional classes located at the Telbru
headquarters in Old Airport, where the insitute first began its operations.
According to Achmed Nadzri, the proposed new
premises at Munchit Square will feature training laboratories for its Cisco and
Comptia training programmes, among others, as well as a laboratory for the
soon-to-be launched Huawei-certified training programmes.
The news of the move was made last week when
the insitute signed an agreement with Chinese ICT solutions powerhouse Huawei
Technologies.
The institute will collaborate with Huawei to
provide skills training programmes for local professionals and graduates who
wish to take up a career in telecommunications within the Sultanate, with
Huawei-certified courses that cover vast IP network basics.
The collaboration, which is set to shape up by
next year, will see the setting up of a training centre and laboratory at the
institute's new premises that will provide training in the different skillsets
and technologies that Huawei has brought to the market.
"Our collaboration with Huawei is
definitely going to be a big one, as the company is heavily involved in the
Fibre-to-the-Home project for Brunei. This collaboration has pushed the need
for this institute to move to a bigger premise," said Achmed Nadzri.
It was also revealed that Huawei and ILM
Academy will collaborate with the University of Brunei Darussalam and a number
of higher learning institutes in Brunei in the third quarter of 2012, where
more teaching laboratories will be set up within the respective faculties.
Since its establishment in 2009, ILM Academy
has provided quality and lifelong learning opportunities specifically in the
areas of information communication and technology and human development capital
learning solutions.
