Russia - Russia boosts trade with Vietnam

The development of relation with Vietnam remains the highest priority of Russia’s diplomatic policy in Asia in 2012 and the following years; the Saigon Economic Times quoted Andrey G.Kovtun, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam on Dec 28.

Data of General Department of Customs showed that till late November 2011, Vietnam’s export to Russia grew around 60% year on year to $1.18 billion. Vietnam’s three major export commodities included kinds of handsets and accessories, apparel, seafood.

Meanwhile, Russia earned $612 million from exporting petrol, cast iron and steel, fertilizer and machines to Vietnam, down 33% against the year earlier.

According to Mr Andrey, Russia’s recent WTO entry as well as expected signing of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the taxation alliance including Nga, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Vietnam will create better conditions for increasing bilateral trade value in the forthcoming time.

So far the involved sides have held three Q&A rounds within the frame of FTA study. In future, Russia plans to build such a bilateral trade model with the whole ASEAN, he revealed.

Currently, Russia remains a potential market of Vietnam. In 2011, despite the world economy faced many difficulties, Russia’s GDP growth still reached 4.5%, exports surged 1/3 time against 2010 and inflation index was maintained at below 7%.

Also Russia kept the lowest public debt ratio in the world, in which its foreign debt was only 2%.
