Vietnam - Airfare to increase from December 15

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s national air carrier Vietnam Airlines has just announced to raise airfare of domestic air routes as of December 15.

The fare will rise for five distances, with the highest increase by 20 percent for economy tickets and up to 5 percent for business tickets.

Specifically, the fare for the air routes between HCM City, Hanoi and Da Nang, the busiest routes, will rise up to 15 percent. It is 20 percent for other routes.

The carrier said it had carefully considered and balance between its business operation and the government’s goal on macro-economic stabilization. This time Vietnam Airlines will only increase airfare from 15-20 percent under the permitted ceiling fare.

The carrier commits to offer low fares, which may be 50 percent less than the ceiling prices, for passengers who book tickets early. For example, the new fare for the Hanoi-HCM City route is VND2.56 million, without tax, but passengers can buy tickets at the lowest price of VND1.05 million.

So far this year, airfare has been increased twice. The first took place in April. The highest fare is for the Hanoi - Can Tho, Hanoi – Phu Quoc routes (VND2.7 million instead of VND2.5 million). The highest fare for Hanoi-HCM City route is VND2.5 million.

Vietnam Airlines is the first carrier that announces to raise airfare.
