Vietnam - Cloud computing believed to boom in 2012

VietNamNet Bridge – Cloud computing technology solution providers such as IBM, Microsoft, HP, Trend Micro all believe that “cloud” may boom 2012.

Vietnam already in awareness about cloud computing

Vo Tan Long, General Director of IBM Vietnam, said that he can see obvious changes in the thought of Vietnamese people about the importance of cloud computing in their lives

“A lot of businesses and organizations have foreseen the tendency of using cloud computing, while many of them have pioneered in utilizing cloud computing solutions such as VinaCorp, the Quang Trung Software Park, Lac Viet Information Technology Company or the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment,” he said.

Also according to Long, the enterprises and organizations mostly focus on three main works, including the issues relating to the infrastructure resources, the issues relating to the apps in corporate governance, and the issues relating to creating the environment for the software testing and development.

Sharing the same view, Mai Quynh Hoa, Marketing Director of Microsoft Vietnam, said that in 2011, businesses the government agencies in Vietnam all carried out the activities in the process towards the utilization of cloud computing. A lot of workshops on the infrastructure, applications and cloud computing services were organized in Vietnam in 2011. Meanwhile, businesses and organizations are going ahead with the plans to use cloud computing services in the cooperation with cloud computing partners.

Aman Neil Dokania, a senior executive of HP, has also noted that cloud computing has had increasingly big impacts on Vietnam, though it is a new technology, and it will still take a long time to popularize it in the country.

Steve Chang, President of Trend Micro, also said that he can see positive changes in Vietnam recently, when businesses and institutions have aware that cloud computing brings big opportunities to developing countries like Vietnam, because it allows to cut down the expenses on infrastructure,

Cloud computing to boom in 2012?

The latest survey conducted by Gartner shows that the growth rate of the “cloud” all over the world has reached 17 percent. Gartner has also pointed out that the total value of cloud computing services has nearly reached 2.4 billion dollars, while the figure may reach 8.1 billion dollars. Meanwhile, IMB, Microsoft and HP all believe that Vietnam would follow the world’s tendency.

Meanwhile, Mai Quynh Hoa thinks that in the immediate time, hybrid cloud would be the most common model to be used by Vietnamese enterprises. With the model, businesses would be able to transfer wanted apps into clouds together with the resources stored at businesses, and connect the resources with online services.

Long believes that the Vietnamese cloud computing market would grow by 3.5-4 times from now to 2015. Meanwhile, the market in 2012 alone would witness the high growth rate of 50 percent.

However, the experts from IBM, Microsoft, HP and Trend Micro all think that the Vietnamese market now is still keeping waiting and experimenting cloud computing apps. A survey by IDC recently has shown that Vietnamese businesses still have worries about the services. 13 percent think that cloud computing is not really usable, while 40 percent still have concern about the legal regulations on the obeying of the standards.

Long also said that 60 percent of polled businesses said they would choose Private Cloud, while Public Cloud has not caught the attention from the business circle.
