A representative from the school said that they had informed students of programme cancellations and would reimburse students the tuition fees for the same. Students are now being offered an alternative to continuing the same programmes in Cambodia, Singapore or Australia. The school had stopped admissions from January 6, said the representative.
She also said that the school is applying for a permit for the programmes, to the Ministry of Education and Training and expects a reply by April, 2012.
Hwong Kee Hong, general director of Raffles Vietnam told Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper that the school was complying by a decision of the Ministry of Education and Training. He said that the school will accommodate the students in the same courses in Cambodia, Singapore or Australia, and also reimburse student fees.
Currently there are 900 students studying at the Raffles International School in Vietnam.
On December 29 last year, the Ministry of Education and Training had decided to penalise three high profile international training institutes in HCMC for illegally recruiting students for programmes that had not been sanctioned by the ministry.
The related institutes were ERC Vietnam, Raffles Vietnam and ILA Vietnam.
Besides penalising the institutes, the ministry had asked them to cease all advertising of the training programmes concerned and reimburse tuition fees for these programmes back to the students.
