THE
Islamic Da'wah Centre, through its Youth Unit, Da'wah Dissemination Section,
plans on organising a youth dialogue in effort to realise the centre's
Strategic Plan 2010-2014.
The dialogue will involve 200 youth from the
country's four districts and will feature the centre's own speakers as well as
invited speakers. It is slated tentatively on April 24 to 25.
The dialogue aims to approach youth in order
to engage in a dialogue with them and at the same time educate them on Islamic
knowledge so they can practice it in their daily lives and be healthy
physically and spiritually, said Hjh Zunainah Hj Gunong, the head of the Youth
Unit.
The strategic plan mandates the unit to come
up with new programmes and activities towards achieving the goals, she added.
The Youth Unit has organised many activities
and programmes catering especially to the youth, to strengthen them in matters
related to aqidah and Islam. Examples of these activities are Islam
strengthening course, Fardhu Ain (obligatory religious duty) and Fardhu kifayah
(community's religious obligation) courses.
The role of the unit is to guide the youth
towards becoming people that possess Islamic aqidah (belief) and akhlak
(moral/behaviour), she added.
One of the factors mentioned by Zunainah was
hedonism.
"We know that there are many factors
influencing our generation, hedonism is one of them," she said.
Islam does not forbid the seeking of seek
entertainment, but the entertainment must be in line with syariat (tenets) of
Islam, she added.
The plan highlights the ministry's mission to
uphold and preserve Islam as the official religion through policies, effective
and dynamic administration, to develop the country based on Islamic law, the
constitution, and the national philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) or Malay
Islamic Monarchy.
The plan focuses on six key areas: effective
religious education, Amar ma'ruf nahi munkar (do good, avoid evil), social
safety assurance, laws that are Syariah-compliant, halal goods and food, and
successful and quality services. The six key areas are all in line with the
ministry's main tasks. The areas of focus will fulfil the needs of the stakeholders
or customers of the ministry.
The Unit also plans to hold a youth camp in
November during the school holidays.
"For this, we will get in touch with the
relevant ministries as well as non-governmental organisations," she said.
Similar to the dialogue, the youth camp will
also be targeted towards strengthening the Syariah Islam and aqidah of the
participants based on Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah and uncovering their potential.
Zunainah said they will also include elements
of the national philosophy, Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB), in the programme.
"We know that our youth have potential,
we hope to help them uncover their potential through the programme," she
said.
Recently, 25 unemployed youth underwent a
course on appreciation of Islam, held on February 13 to 18.
The course was the first organised targeted
especially to the unemployed. Similar courses were organised for students, both
in primary and secondary schools as well as students studying in universities
overseas.
"We do not want them to feel left out in
(learning religious knowledge). The objective of this course is to expand our
scope and target groups to cover all levels of youths (in all the
activities)," she said.
