THE preparation for the 28th National Day celebration gains momentum, mini
table flags were distributed to more than 35,000 students around the country
yesterday.

Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah
officiated at the launching of the distribution at the Sungai Tali Primary
School in Seria, Belait.
The launching ceremony yesterday took place at
the Sungai Tali Primary School and proceeded at the nearby Pengiran Anak Puteri
Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah (PAPHRSB) Secondary School.
In a press release, the objective of the mini
table flags distribution is to instil among the students a greater sense of
patriotism and love for the national flag.
It further stated that the mini table flags
are symbolic and evident of the nation's independence, which is an aspect of
patriotism that students are expected to appreciate and honour.
The launching ceremony began with the hoisting
of the national flag followed by the school choir's performance of the national
anthem.
The minister gave a speech about the spirit of
patriotism and its role in protecting the interests of the nation, religion and
monarchy.
The principal of PAPHRSB Secondary School, Hjh
Murni Abdullah, also gave a speech in her capacity as chairman of the ceremony.
She said that the school welcomes the mini
table flags initiative as it fosters nationalism and cultivates a sense of
self-belonging among the students.
"After reaching 28 years of independence,
we would indeed like the younger generation to have a deeper understanding of
the significance that our national flag holds in achieving independence,"
she said.
The principal added that the younger
generation, "as the future leaders and pillars", must appreciate the
nation's independence.
Also present to distribute 400 mini table
flags to students from both schools with the CYS minister was the Ministry of
Education's (MoE) Permanent Secretary Hj Mahrub Hj Murni alongside Belait
District Officer Hj Haris Hj Othman.
Similar ceremonies organised by the MCYS in
collaboration with the MoE and Ministry of Religious Affairs were carried out
nationwide yesterday.
