Brunei - New one-stop health centre ready next year

A NEW building for the Rimba Health Centre is being constructed behind the Rimba Dialysis Centre.

The new health centre falls under the Ninth National Development Plan (RKN ke-9) for the Ministry of Health (MOH). Construction for the new building costs $7.8 million and is expected to be completed by April 2013.

At the foundation laying ceremony yesterday, chairperson of the event and Acting Assistant Director of Project Development and Estate Management, Hj Zalidi Hj Abd Latip explained that the current Rimba Health Centre is sharing a building with the Rimba Dialysis Centre.

"Due to health centre's size, services are limited and cannot accommodate the growing number of people who visit," said Hj Zalidi.

The MOH is constructing a new building for the Rimba Health Centre so it would be able to provide more comprehensive services and would go in line with the MOH strategic plan for a One Stop Health Care centre, added Hj Zalidi.

With the moving of the Rimba Health Centre, this will enable the Rimba Dialysis Centre to improve and develop its services that go in line with its role as a national kidney reference centre.

The building of the new health centre is handled by Syarikat Sornata Sdn Bhd and they have started working on the building since January 18, 2012, Hj Zalidi said, adding that the new Rimba Health Centre is expected to be completed on April 17, 2013.

The building follows a three floor concept and the floor area is 4,915 square metres.

Services that will be included in the new centre are an outpatient clinic, clinic for pregnant women, children's health clinic and pharmacy/dispensary services, said Hj Zalidi.

Facilities that can be found include a surau (prayer hall), lecture hall, conference room, lift and car parking area.

According to Hj Zalidi, the new building and its facilities aims to give comfort to patients and the new health centre will be efficient and able to cater to problems faced by the people living in the Mukim Gadong area and general public.

Present as the guest of honour at the foundation laying ceremony was the Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof.

Also present at the event were Dato Paduka Hj Abd Salam Hj Momin, Permanent Secretary of MOH; Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abd Jalil, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional and Technical) at the MOH; Hjh Siti Mariam Hj Md Jaafar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at MOH; together with MOH senior officers and staff.

Towards the end of the event, the guest of honour took a tour of an exhibition displaying the floor plan and picture of the new Rimba Health Centre Building. The Minister of Health was accompanied by Hj Zalidi and Mohd Billy Lim Abd Aziz, principal architect from Arkitek RekaJaya.

Arkitek Rekajaya was chosen as consultant for the project and the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between Arkitek Rekajaya and the MOH took place March 23, 2011.
