KUCHING: After three decades building a
solid reputation as a leading healthcare provider at home, Malaysia’s BP
Healthcare Group (BP Healthcare) is set to soar with its regional expansion
into Indonesia and Thailand as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
The family-owned conglomerate will ink joint
venture partnerships with Indonesia’s well-known Ciputra Group and Thailand’s
Red Bull International on Saturday at a milestone celebration to be held in
Istana Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
With a combined population over 300 million
people or half of Asean’s population, Indonesia and Thailand hold tremendous
growth potential for BP Healthcare and its aspiration to be a billion-ringgit
company.
“This is a new exciting frontier for BP
Healthcare. We will set up joint venture companies in the two countries and our
target is to develop 100 outlets in Indonesia and 50 in Thailand within the
next three years,” said BP Healthcare director Chevy Beh.
“We are confident of doing very well in our
international plans based on our successful model in Malaysia and the core
strengths that we have developed over the years.”
BP Healthcare, which invests heavily in
sophisticated state-of-the-art technologies and developed a fully integrated
software tracking system, posted a triple-digit compound annual growth rate
(CAGR) in sales and profit in the past three years.
Last year, the group recorded the fastest
growth in sales, outlets openings and recruitment in the company’s history.
Subsidiary BP Clinical Sdn Bhd (BP Clinical) created a first when it became the
first medical laboratory in Asia to be accredited by the US-based Joint
Commission International, the global leader in accrediting healthcare
organisations.
In 2010, BP Diagnostic Centre, with 50 outlets
throughout the country, was presented the Malaysia Frost & Sullivan 2010
Best Practice Award for customer value enhancement in diagnostics.
Beh, who is responsible for the group’s
finance and investment portfolio, is the eldest son of group founder Datuk Beh
Chun Chuan, a trained medical microbiologist, who continues to play an active
role in the company as the group’s chairman.
The senior Beh took over a medical testing
firm in Ipoh in 1982, renamed it BP Clinical Laboratory and nurtured it into
the comprehensive healthcare company and household name that is BP Healthcare
Group today. BP Healthcare has a strong presence in every state in Malaysia with
its vast network of medical laboratories, diagnostic centres, dispensaries and
pharmacies, hearing centres, food testing centres, nutrition and dietician
centres, teleradiology centres and clinical waste collection outlets.
The company currently employs 800 employees
with a large number of doctors, specialists, nutritionists and other healthcare
professionals. Saturday’s anniversary celebration with the theme ‘Healthy
Inside, Beauty Outside’ will see several local and international celebrities
sharing their experiences on fitness.
They include Hong Kong’s TVB star Fala Chen,
international actor Steve Yap and former spring king, Tan Sri Dr M Jegathesan,
who serves on the board of directors of BP Healthcare. For more information on
