SINGAPORE: Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas will be in Singapore on Monday for a three-day visit.
Mr Kallas' trip here is at the invitation of Singapore's Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Lui Tuck Yew.
He is visiting under the Ministry of Transport's Distinguished Visitors' Programme, under which key international transport leaders and eminent personalities come to Singapore in conjunction with the Singapore Airshow and Aviation Leadership Summit.
During his visit, Mr Kallas will meet Mr Lui as well as Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for National Security & and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean.
The Transport Ministry said Mr Kallas' visit provides a good opportunity for Singapore and the European Commission (EC) to exchange views on transport issues and explore areas for further co-operation.
Mr Kallas and Mr Lui will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on co-operation on intelligent transport systems, and witness the signing of other agreements on co-operation in the aviation sector between the European Commission and Singapore.
On Monday, Mr Kallas will deliver the Lunch Address at the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit (ALS) 2012.
Mr Kallas will tour the exhibition at the Singapore Airshow 2012.
On Wednesday, Mr Kallas will give a public lecture at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, on the topic "Transport: the key to a stronger partnership between Europe and Southeast Asia".
He will visit various transport facilities, including the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), PSA, and SMRT.
In addition, he will visit the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC), which is based in Singapore.
Mr Kallas will be accompanied by senior officials from the European Commission.
