As part of its long-term five-year plan, the institute launched Asia's first sports medicine network.
On Thursday, the SSI announced its first partnership, as part of plans to work closely with the private sector.
Acting Sports Minister Chan Chun Sing, was on hand to unveil the Singapore Sports Medicine Network.
Three hospitals are collaborating with the SSI, namely Changi General Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The wider network would better serve the core group of athletes by increasing the capacity of such services, and athletes getting access to a full spectrum of sports medicine care.
The expertise would also benefit the wider community and the partnership could be extended to more hospitals in future.
"The whole idea is to make sports medicine available to the athletes and if we can have more partners then this network will become more effective," said Associate Professor Fabian Lim, executive director, Singapore Sports Institute.
The Sports Institute will also look at the career and educational aspects of these athletes.
There are plans to collaborate with Institutes of Higher Learning and private organisations to ensure that these athletes can juggle sports and studies and even get internships with companies.
Mr Chan also outlined that the enhancement of the Sports Institute is part of Singapore's Vision 2030 plan, and added that the government has received good feedback from the public to 19 recommendations released recently for Vision 2030.
Road shows will be held to reach out to more people now, as the authorities sharpen some of the proposals.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Sports Council is prioritising the work for the implementation plans and in a couple of months the final recommendations should be made known to the general public.
