In northern provinces, a new strain of avian flu, 2.3.2, has been found, which has once again ramified into two sub-branches.

At least 11 localities nationwide have reported an avian flu epidemic and nearly 20,000 fowl, mainly ducks, have already been culled, according to the Vietnam Animal Health agency.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked the Prime Minister to allocate VND13 billion from the State budget to buy 50 million doses of vaccine against the Re-5 strain of the flu.
* Bird flu detected in two Ha Tinh’s communes
An outbreak of the avian flu has been recorded in Cam Hoa and Cam Vinh communes, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province, according to the provincial Veterinary Department.
In Cam Hoa commune, the disease was first detected in Tran Dac Dinh’s family in Quy Hoa hamlet on February 15 and dead poultry was also found in four other households.
Over 1,200 head of poultry have been destroyed in the locality so far.
Bui Duc Hai’s family was the first farming household to be infected with bird flu in Cam Vinh commune.
The epidemic has recently spread to four communes in Ha Tinh province, including Ky Trinh, and Cam Due, Cam Hoa and Cam Vinh.
The province is finding itself in a difficult position to forestall the epidemic due to the lack of available vaccines.
