The
Asia-Pacific Group will support Vietnam in preventing monetary laundering and
combating the financing of terrorism, the Banking Inspectorate and Supervision
Department of the State Bank of Vietnam said on Tuesday.
The APG delegation acknowledged Vietnam's
efforts in criminalising these two acts. At the meeting, the cooperation with
the International Co-operation Review Group (ICRG) was also discussed.
The APG delegation reviewed, evaluated and
offered suggestions for the implementation of core actions in the national
plan. The APG recommended that Vietnam block or freeze funds channeling money
for terrorist activities, promote international cooperation, and re-considering
extradition issues from the Palermo convention, a United Nations convention
against transnational organized crime.
The APG delegation also pledged technical
assistance for Vietnam by seeking donors for the country in these two areas.
The high-level APG delegation also met
representatives from Vietnam's Government Office, Foreign Ministry, Finance
Ministry and Justice Ministry to get a better understanding on how these
systems have been operating in Vietnam.
