Vietnam - Da Nang penalizes unauthorized course runners

Education authorities in the central city of Da Nang have decided to crack down on a local company and the representative office of a Ho Chi Minh City institute after they were found running master’s degree courses illegally.

Nguyen Truong, chief inspector of the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, says it has demanded the company, IMPAC Training and HR Development, shut down its illegal course and cease all related marketing campaigns.

The department has also asked the city People’s Committee to fine IMPAC VND55 (US$2,640) million, Truong adds.

It has simultaneously ordered the Da Nang representative office of the Institute of Finance and Administration (IFA) to stop its illegitimate course and other enrollment activities.

Earlier, the two had been found dealing with several partners, offering unauthorized MBA courses to 32 students.

IMPAC, only licensed to teach short-term courses, teamed up with a Vietnamese company and a French university to enroll students for its course while IFA’s Da Nang office recruited students for the other, reportedly run by its partner, the Australia-based University of Ballarat.
