Vietnam - The third H5N1 patient in critical condition

VietNamNet Bridge – Being hospitalized to the HCM City Hospital of Tropical Diseases on February 24 in high fever and respiratory failure, Truong Phu Son, 22, is diagnosed of catching type A/H5N1 influenza.


On February 26, the hospital’s representative announced that the patient was in critical condition.

Doctors said that the patient was being treated under the Ministry of Health’s treatment procedures but he was still in high temperature and respiratory failure.

The patient is an immigrant worker in the southern province of Binh Duong. This is the first H5N1 patient of Binh Duong so far this year. Son returned to Binh Duong from his hometown in the central province of Thanh Hoa on February 8. He began having a fever on February 17.

Doctors said that the patient could get the flu in Thanh Hoa, Binh Duong or Cu Chi of HCM City before he slaughtered and ate duck in Cu Chi around ten days ago.

This is the third A/H5N1 patient in Vietnam so far this year. The two other patients, one in Soc Trang and one in Kien Giang, have died.
