Brunei - $6M For iPads For Schools

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Minister of Education revealed that his ministry will spend around $6 million to acquire iPads, acknowledging the many benefits of using the notebook in schools.

At the ongoing Eighth Legislative Council session yesterday, YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awang Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong revealed the plan under the Ministry of Education's e-Hijrah programme.

"We will reach a level where children will have iPads in their classroom," YB Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awg Abu Bakar said.

He said there are many benefits in using iPads in schools. He said the iPad will reduce the impact of book shortage, because books can be stored into the iPad, and furthermore, unlike books, iPads can provide interactive learning as well. The minister added that interactive learning using iPads has already started in MIB subject.

He gave an example of iPad usage in MIB classes, where students can tap the photo of 'gulintangan' (traditional musical instrument) on their iPad and sounds and description will follow.
