The first women's hospital will be opened
soon in Cambodia in order to help mass women in this country who face serious
problems accessing healthcare services.
In a
statement released Tuesday, non-profit organization Nokor Tep Foundation said
the 220-bed Nokor Tep hospital is the first health care facility of its kind in
Cambodia that will provide services for women.
"We
must stop the silent suffering of women in this country, where 85 percent of
women face serious problems accessing healthcare services," said Janne
Ritskes, president of the Nokor Tep Foundation.
While
the plan is in place, she said the funding of a new 11 million U.S. dollars hospital
for poor women with cancer and other ailments is on track.
She
said generous contribution from all sources is still welcome in order to make
sure the hospital would operate well.
According
to the statement, the first women's hospital project with fund raising will
begin later this month.
And
once the hospital opens, it will provide 300 examinations per day by 20
Cambodian and 6 foreign specialists in gynecologists, oncologists, surgeons,
anesthetists and radiotherapist.
Cambodia
has established a religious-monk hospital which still exists today.
