(KPL) A high ranking delegation of Laos led
by Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign
Affairs paid an official visit to Australia from 27-29 February as a guest of
the ministry of foreign affairs of Australia.
Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith and his entourage was
greeted in Sydney by Mr. Victor Dominello, member of the parliament of New
South Wales and Minister for Citizenship and Communities and Minister for
Aboriginal Affairs.
While in Sydney, DPM Thongloun Sisoulith had a
meeting with business people of Australia who has invested in Laos. The meeting
was jointly chaired by Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith and Mr. Hugh Morgan, President
of Asian Business Group and Mr. Warwick Smith, former minister for energy and
president of ANZ Bank Group of New South Wales and Canberra. On this occasion,
the participants have shared their point of view on the situation of the
investment in Laos and some of them have expressed their interesting on the
conditions for the investment in the Lao PDR.
During his visit to Canberra, DPM Thongloun
Sisoulith has met with Mr. Craig Emerson, member of the parliament, Minister of
Trade and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia where the sides
exchanged their view on the current relations and discussed the bilateral and
multilateral cooperation in the future between Laos and Australia as well as
for the benefits on peace and development. DPM Thongloun Sisoulith and Mr.
Craig Emerson then signed in an agreement to implement the assistant project on
food, clean water and sanitation for primary school’s children. He also met with Mr. Martin
Ferguson, member of the parliament and minister for resources and energy to
exchange the cooperation on energy, natural resources and tourism.
DPM Thongloun Sisoulith also met with Mrs.
Julie Bishop, member of the parliament, head of the Opposition in the
Parliament of Australia who is also Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs;
attended the ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties
between Laos and Australia organized by Lao Embassy in Australia.
The function was attended by more than 100
people including Mr. Craig Emerson, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, senior
officials from Australia, diplomatic crop from Asian countries and Lao
community in Australia. Speaking at the ceremony, Lao ambassador to Australia
Mr. Langsy Kongsaysy and Mr. Emerson respectively spoke highlighting about the
importance of the diplomatic relation between Laos and Australia.
DPM Thongloun Sisoulith has also a working
session with Mrs. Kay Paterson, former minister for women affairs and vice
chairman of Interpast Australia and Mrs. Julia Huton, Director General of CARE.
DPM Thongloun Sisoulith, his wife and a
delegation started his working visit to New Zealand on 1 March as a guest of
Mr. Murray McCully, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand.
