Singapore - BT wins health IT contract in Singapore

BT today announced that it has been selected by The Farrer Park Company, a group of private medical and hospitality specialists, to be their IT partner for Connexion at Farrer Park, Singapore's first integrated healthcare and hospitality complex comprising a specialist medical centre, a private tertiary hospital, and a luxury hotel with state-of-the-art conference and wellness facilities.

Under the contract, worth approximately £7 million, BT will provide a comprehensive range of programme management and systems integration services. It will design, build and support the entire facility's technology and applications architecture, bringing together multiple business applications such as the finance and human resources systems, customer relationship management, queue management, security solutions, and the hospitality management and healthcare information systems.

Users will benefit from a 'single sign-on' which permits them to enter one name and password to access multiple applications from a variety of devices. This will allow staff access to information on-the-go, helping to provide quality care to patients. In addition, digital concierge services will cater for hospital patients seeking medical treatment and their subsequent recuperation needs, as well as for hotel guests who are otherwise healthy, but who are looking for wellness services.

A key aspect of the overall service includes virtualisation, ensuring that multidisciplinary care teams can access applications and enter data with ease while preserving the need for mobility and security.

Dr Luisa Lee, president & chief executive at The Farrer Park Company, said: "Connexion at Farrer Park is set to redefine the future of private healthcare in Singapore. It is a truly unique development which will cement the country's position as the medical hub of the Asia Pacific region.

"For such a cutting-edge project as Connexion, it is essential that our IT partner complements our own experience in this field to help us provide a world class healthcare facility. BT, with its extensive worldwide experience, is the ideal fit. We are looking forward to working with them."
Kevin Taylor, president, BT Asia Pacific, said: "BT is delighted to have been selected by The Farrer Park Company as their IT partner for this prestigious and strategically important project. It is particularly exciting to be involved in such a landmark development which, when completed, will be one of the leading facilities in the region, if not the world."

"Technology has an important role to play in helping improve healthcare for patients and staff alike and, transforming the way patient care is delivered."

"BT has a long and successful history as a leading supplier of networked IT services to the healthcare sector. Building on our experience in the UK with our work with the National Health Service, we are applying this unique knowledge and expertise globally, especially in the Asia Pacific region."
The Connexion complex is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in 2013.

BT was recently chosen by SERCO to provide The Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia with a complete suite of ICT services and helping create one of the most technologically advanced medical facilities in the world.

BT has also successfully implemented a number of health programmes in Singapore, Hungary, Australia, France, Spain, and the Netherlands.
