SINGAPORE
- The Singapore Institute of Management
(SIM) has completed the first phase of a $300 million plan to double the size
of its campus.
A new
annex building, which is adjacent to the institution's existing HQ building in
Clementi, was officially opened by President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Friday.
The
completion marks the first of two phases of the Campus Development Master Plan,
which is expected to finish by 2014, and will render an additional total of
63,000 sq m to the campus.
This is
more than double the size of the 44,500 sq m HQ building, which SIM moved into
in 2001.
Phase
two will see the addition of three more buildings, together with facilities
like a performing arts complex, a sports hall, rooftop tennis courts, and a
heritage gallery.
The expanded
campus will cater primarily to the growing needs of SIM University (UniSIM), an
entity under the SIM Group. UniSIM is currently the only local private tertiary
institution permitted by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to award its own
degrees.
SIM's
current total enrolment stands at 31,500. UniSIM now has 12,000 students, up
from 8,000 in 2007, and this is projected to grow to 14,000 by 2015.
SIM
said its expansion will also cater for the growing enrolment in its Global
Education (SIM GE) branch, which offers degree programmes through its 13
international partner universities such as University of London and Royal
Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
The
launch today was witnessed by Mr Gerard Ee, Chairman of SIM Governing Council;
Professor Cham Tao Soon, Chancellor and Chairman of SIM University; and Mr
Richard Eu, Chairman of Singapore Institute of Management Pte Ltd Board of
Directors.
