The
Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will receive suggestions on the
amendment and supplement of different articles in tourism policies from now
until June before making a proposal to the National Assembly in March next
year, said Dr Trinh Xuan Dung from the organization at a conference on tourism
policy held last Wednesday.
Also at the conference, Huynh Tan Vinh,
chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association said that the protection of
tourists should be a part of tourism policy.
It is necessary to have tourism police to
protect travelers’ rights, especially after foreign tourists have recently
reported many scams and rips-offs. which may damage the image of Vietnamese
tourism.
He said the law also needs to employ a one-price
policy for famous attractions so that foreigners pay the same as locals.
Vinh also appealed for more government
attention to tourism as it is one of the main industries in Vietnam.
“The amount of money hotels have to spend on
electricity, water and taxes is the highest in the service field. The
government needs to implement a policy to support tourism businesses,” said
Vinh.
Nguyen Phuong Mai from the Thua Thien-Hue
Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the management of tour guides is
very loose at the moment. Even the local department of Culture, Sports and
Tourism does not keep track of the guides to whom they issue working licenses.
Mai also proposed supplementing the management
of overnight boats and ships after accidents have caused a couple to sink over
the past year.
