Vietnam - HCM City grants VND1 million for each sterilized case

VietNamNet Bridge – From now to 2015, HCM City will give a bonus of VND1 million ($50) and a two-year health insurance to those who perform sterilization, instead of VND700,000 ($35).

This is a new policy to curb population growth of Vietnam’s biggest city. Accordingly, putting in a coil or performing sterilization will be provided free of charge. Those who use these services will be supplied with free medicines. Particularly, those who perform sterilization will have VND1 million ($50) of bonus.

People who use these contraceptive methods will be treated free of charge in case they suffer from side effects.

In addition, wards and communes where do not have families that deliver the third child upwards within a year will be granted VND7.5 million of bonus.

Those who successfully convince others to perform sterilization will be rewarded VND100,000 ($5) per case, instead of VND25,000. Medical centers will be rewarded VND20,000 for a male sterilization and VND5,000 for a female sterilization case.

To Thi Kim Hoa, chief of HCM City’s People and Family Planning Bureau said that the city has more than 300 population affair groups and 9,000 collaborators. Over 1,000 people are campaigned to conduct sterilization annually.
