SIXTY-NINE new nurses and midwives attended
an orientation and induction course at the Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday
to familiarise themselves with performance expectations, priorities,
responsibilities and work ethics.
Held at
the Health Promotion Centre, the course, which ends on May 5, aims to introduce
national philosophy and policies, the ministry's mission and vision, and the
organisational structure of medical institutions.
It also
seeks to familiarise new nurses and midwives with their tasks and
responsibilities, positive work ethics and encourage teamwork among personnel.
Speaking
at the opening ceremony was Acting Director of Administration and Finance, Abd
Walid Hj Matassan, who stated that the course was designed to boost the spirit
of teamwork among personnel and inculcate positive work ethics through
programmes such as the teambuilding activity.
"The
69 nurses and midwives will undergo their orientation programme at the Raja
Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital and a teambuilding activity at the
Rambai Health Centre in Tutong," said the acting director.
He
explained that the team building was conducted to raise awareness among medical
personnel of the importance of following up with outpatients, taking
initiatives, strategic planning, decision making and active participation in a
team.
"The
programme is not just for the participants to understand the content, but more
importantly for it to be practised daily while performing duties and
responsibilities when caring for the patients' well-being," said Abd
Walid.
He then
congratulated the participants for successfully completing their Diploma
courses and joining the ministry.
Launching
the event was the Permanent Secretary at MoH, Dato Paduka Hj Abd Salam Abd
Momin.
