Malaysia - Malaysia rewards outstanding educators

KUALA LUMPUR - The government has awarded some 14,000 educators from 403 schools nationwide on March 15 under the New Deals initiative with various incentives worth around RM15 million (S$6.1 million).

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin congratulated the staff from 403 schools and said the New Deals was a reward to those who achieved their targets set under the GTP's Education NKRA in an effort to reduce the disparity in quality educational opportunities between rural and urban schools.

He cited an Orang Asli school Sekolah Kebangsaan Tasik Cini in Pekan, Pahang, which was a recipient for the incentive reward.

Under the New Deals incentive, school heads are entitled to receive certificates and a monetary reward of RM7,500 each while the top 5 per cent of teachers in the respective schools would receive RM1,800.

Other teachers would receive RM900 while the support staff receives RM500 each.

The New Deals initiative was introduced under the GTP in 2010 to reward the contribution and performance of school heads whose schools' performance fulfilled the criteria set by the government.

It is aimed to motivate head teachers and teachers to continue improving their performance in providing quality education to students.
