Vietnam has constantly improved its
investment environment, and welcomed Japanese businesses to invest in the
country.
Prime
Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement at a reception in Tokyo on April 20
given by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and the Japan
Business Federation (Keidanren).
He has
been in Japan for the 4th Mekong-Japan summit at the invitation of Prime
Minister Yoshihiko Noda.
He
noted that Japan has so far invested in nearly 1,600 projects in Vietnam with
total registered capital of over US$26 billion, making it the biggest foreign
investor in the country.
Most
big Japanese companies have been operating in Vietnam, providing high quality
and competitive products and generating jobs for local people.
Dung
acknowledged Keidanren’s efforts in realising the Vietnam-Japan Joint
Initiative with its Vietnamese partners, aimed at improving the business
environment and facilitating trade and investment in Vietnam.
He
expressed his hope that this year’s Mekong-Japan summit will identify “pillars
of cooperation” among Mekong River member countries and Japan to offer new
opportunities to their businesses.
Meeting
Vietnamese Embassy officials and staff the same day, Dung asked representative
Vietnamese missions in Japan to accelerate economic diplomacy so as to make
recommendations concerning Japan’s development experience to the government.
In
addition, he said, they help increase cooperation with Japan in infrastructure,
support industries and logistics, energy, science-technology, human resources
training, green development and environmental protection.
Another
important for the missions is to attract official development assistance (ODA)
and foreign direct investment (FDI) from Japan, and make full use of the
Private-Public Partnership (PPP) model to mobilise foreign sources of aid for
national industrialisation and modernisation.
