Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat and
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen are expected to discuss implementation of the
International Court of Justice's provisional measures on the border dispute
today.
Their
meeting is scheduled to take place this evening in Phnom Penh during ACM
Sukumpol's two-day trip to Cambodia, which begins today.
The
defence minister is leading a 20-member delegation to attend the Asean Defence
Ministers' Meeting.
A defence
source said Phnom Penh wants Thailand to observe the provisional measures by
withdrawing its troops and replacing them with border patrol police.
The ICJ
has ruled that the two countries must withdraw their troops from a 17.3 sq km
demilitarised zone and asked Indonesian observers to monitor the process.
The
provisional measures were issued pending review of the ICJ's 1962 verdict that
the 4.6 sq km disputed area near Preah Vihear temple was in Cambodian
territory.
