Vietnam - HCMC to launch corruption probe at 8 agencies

Authorities of Ho Chi Minh City are set to soon inspect anti-corruption activities at eight state-owned agencies including six People’s Committees, the city’s inspectorate department announced on Thursday.

The agencies to be inspected include two corporations -- printer Liksin and builder Saigon Construction -- and the People’s Committees of six districts: 8, Go Vap, Tan Phu, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc, and Cu Chi.

The period of inspection is planned to last 45 days, focusing on such fields as transparency in the purchase of public assets, infrastructure construction, budget, land management, asset declaration of officials, and the issue of denouncement of corruption.

Besides, the city will also probe investment projects of District 5’s Housing and Development Company in the neighboring Dong Nai Province.

North in Hanoi, the law-making National Assembly is currently convening a conference for deputies to focus on solutions to fighting corruption in some fields like management of land and natural resources, construction, public asset purchases, management and use of state capital, and personnel appointment at state organizations.
